WHEN WAS IGC FOUNDED?
İzmir Journalists Association was established in 1946 as a result of the searches that started after the Turkish Press Association was closed. The first general assembly was held on 5 August 1946 and Ali Şevket Bilgin was elected as the chairman.

FOUNDERS OF IZMIR JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION
ABDİ SOKULLU
It is a name known to come from the Sokullu Family, which has been famous throughout history. He started his journalism career in 1932 as the managing director of Yeni Asır newspaper. For a long time, he held important positions such as correspondent and editor-in-chief. In time, he joined the newspaper's partners. The successful works of Yeni Asır in the modernization of the printing house drew attention. He contributed to the end of manual typesetting by using typesetting machines, which were considered modern in the Izmir press at that time. He pioneered in bringing the rotary machine, which is a huge printing machine, to İzmir. He was one of the five people involved in the founding of the Izmir Journalists Association in 1946. It was stated in an article that none of the workers were fired even though they owned half of the newspaper. He served the newspaper Yeni Asır until his death. He was married and had two children.
ASIM KÜLTÜR
After he was born in Kratova (Macedonia), he migrated to Balikesir with his family. He completed his high school education. After the Balkan Wars, he migrated to Turkey with his family and settled in Balikesir. During the First World War, he was drafted into the army and sent to the Palestine Front. Here he was taken prisoner by the British and was held in England for a long time. With the start of the War of Independence, he was released and was able to return to his hometown. He published the Culture Magazine and took his last name from this magazine. His articles were published in Fikirler Magazine and other literary magazines. After his retirement, he wrote a column for Yeni Asır newspaper. He translated many works on literature and education into Turkish. He was one of the five people involved in the founding of the Izmir Journalists Association in 1946. He also spoke French.
M.SIRRI SANLI
He was born in Chios (Greece). After completing his İdadi (High School) education, he settled in İzmir after the War of Independence. She both worked as a French teacher at the Girls' Teachers' School and worked for the newspaper Yeni Asır. She published Sedayi Hak Newspaper with Ismail Hakkı Ocakoğlu. He first published Halkın Sesi Newspaper in 1930 and then moved to Le Lenavt Newspaper. In the same period, she published a humor magazine called "Efe". He was among the five people involved in the founding of the Izmir Journalists Association in 1946. He knew English, French and Greek languages. He was married and had three children.
NİHAT KÜRŞAT
This person, born in 1918 and born in Heraklion, Crete, Greece, was a journalist, politician and statesman. He died on February 24, 1988. After high school education, she preferred the profession of journalism. Together with Jerfi Yener and Kemal Mete, he published the newspaper Ege Ekspres (1952) in order to support the Democrat Party (DP) government in the Aegean Region. In his journalism career, he exhibited a personality whose political aspect was at the forefront. He was elected as an İzmir Deputy from the Justice Party (AP) list in the 1961 and 1969 elections and entered the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). Between 1965 and 1969, he served as the Minister of Tourism and Promotion in the Süleyman Demirel governments.
ŞEVKET BİLGİN
He was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. He is the son of Abdurrahman Arif Bey and is the owner of Asır Newspaper, which was founded in 1895. He studied law. He started his journalism career in 1910 by adding the word "Yeni" before his name, as the concessionaire of Yeni Asır, this change took place with the second Constitutional period. They immigrated to Izmir with his family in 1924, so the newspaper began to be published in Izmir. In the same period, he published Le Levant, a French newspaper, together with Sırrı Sanlı and Michel Kamber. In 1946, he established the Journalists' Association with his four friends. He speaks French and Greek languages. He wrote editorials in Yeni Asır newspaper until his death and determined the publication policy of the newspaper. After his death, awards were given in his name every year. He is married and has two children.
